Lead Magnet: What the what?

The lifeblood of any business is its mailing list. Word of mouth is fantastic, ads can definitely work, and social media is its own special kind of hell, er, territory. Try anything and everything that seems fun and interesting, but neglect your best asset at your own risk.

A good lead magnet will encourage people to sign up for your mailing list, and it’s a nice way to start your relationship. Who doesn’t like to be greeted with a gift?

There are a ton of options when it comes to what you give away: pdfs, checklists, so-called swipe files, how-to videos, quizzes, mini-courses - the sky’s the limit. I’ll help you come up with an idea and write it up. I can even design it for you.

Examples:

  • This list, 100 Things to Throw Away, is a lead magnet for a decluttering consultant. It offers help with a task readers find tedious and overwhelming, making it both helpful and aspirational.

  • People loooooove taking quizzes, particularly if the answer tells them something about themselves. This quiz helps people determine their Clutter Archetype. Knowing more about your habits gives you the tools to make changes.

  • Give your audience some insider info; it’s always nice to know what the experts are using. You can add affiliate links as long as you’re clear about it. This one also includes quick demos of the various tools - there’s lots of value in this free resource.
