Just Joy Volume 3
So imagine you’re in a band. Like, a world-famous top-of-the-charts band. And you joined that band with your boyfriend, a guy you’ve known since you were in high school, and played music with ever since. A guy you’re pretty sure is the love of your life.
But a year or so into your new high-flying rockstar reality you break up. Badly.
Now, the breakup of band members is usually the kiss of death for that particular lineup. One of them leaves, or the band dies on impact. But no. I mean, hell no! Because three other people in that band are also breaking up at the very same time, two of them from each other. And there’s no way any of you are backing down.
So you all write breakup songs and glare at each other over the mikestand. In fact, some of those breakup songs end up on an album that wins Album of the Year at the Grammys. Missing from that platinum album, however, is your breakup song. The one that describes how it felt to have been abandoned.
Things happen. A few years later he leaves the band to go solo, and then you do too. (Incidentally, you have a far more successful career. Just saying.) And in the blink of an eye, twenty years have passed. And there you both are, back in the band. Which calls for a reunion tour. It’s been a long time since your ex broke your heart, but the old feelings are still there.
This is the background to this incredible performance by Fleetwood Mac of Stevie Nicks’ song “Silver Springs”. Watch her and her former paramour, Lindsey Buckingham, trade smoldering looks. Her intensity could strike a man dead; it’s a wonder the stage didn’t burst into flames.
Enjoy!
